Irish Session
A session (seisiun in Gaelic) is a gathering of Irish traditional musicians for the purpose of celebrating their
common interest in the music by playing it together in a relaxed, informal setting…and getting out of the house to spend
an evening with friends over a few pints of beer.
It is where the music lives and breathes, where it does its homework and flexes its muscles. It is where young and /or
new musicians learn from and play with the older, more experienced, and talented (Foy, 1999). One musician starts
playing a tune and whoever knows the tune joins in and plays along. The session is open to everyone.
